Drycoolers

A drycooler is similar to an air-cooled condenser, but uses a liquid solution to transfer heat rather than refrigerant and compressors. These systems are often seen in data centers where excess heat must be dissipated, but certain low humidity is not required. The liquid absorbs heat from the room and transfers it out to the drycooler, which uses a series of condensing fans to perform cooling.

An important advantage of this type of system is that no evaporation of liquid takes place. Drycoolers can often dissipate larger amounts of heat in a much smaller footprint than traditional air-cooled direct expansion condensing units, which can be an advantage for projects with limited ground or roof space.

Drycoolers are used in various types of buildings and applications in the cooling industry, including:

  • Data centers
  • Office buildings
  • Hospitals / medical office buildings
  • Industrial / process systems
  • Heat transfer / recovery
  • Power generation
  • Induction cooling
