Ice banks

The idea behind an ice bank is quite simple: during off-peak hours, when electricity rates are lower, the cooler is turned on. The water in the ice bank freezes and turns into ice. This is called thermal storage. During the day (peak hours), the cooler is turned off so that the ice will melt into ice water. This ice water can then be used for cooling.

This simple but efficient way of cooling is often used in breweries, food processing companies, industrial bakeries, the dairy industry, etc.

Although the operation and principle is very simple, an ice bank has many advantages:

  • Environmentally friendly
  • Savings on energy costs
  • Maintenance friendly
  • Simple operation
